Unable to install as a service after upgrade

Problem

When clicking on the Install as Service option in the PeerSync Profiler, either an error or a successful message is received; however the PeerSync service is either not listed in the Services window or it is listed but unable to start.

Solution

Follow these steps:

Step 1

If the Service did not install, make sure you are logged on to the system with an account with enough rights to install the service.

If after logging on to the System with an account with enough rights to install the service, you are still unable to Install the PeerSync Service through the PeerSync Profiler, go to Step 3.

Step 2

If the Service installed but does not Start, make sure you validate the logon credentials of the PeerSync Service. The service should be run under a domain account with enough rights to access all folders involved in the synchronization. Normally, a Domain Administrator account is recommended.

If you are still having issues with starting the Service, follow the instructions below for Step 3.

Step 3

The issue was most likely caused by installation of the non-UAC version of the PeerSync installation. It is important that for Windows operating systems later than 2003 that you run the UAC version of the PeerSync installation to make sure the install is successful on these systems.

Follow the instructions below to uninstall and reinstall PeerSync:

  1. Save the PeerSync profile (the .snc file in the installation folder) to an alternate location.
  2. Uninstall PeerSync through Add/Remove Programs.
  3. Force delete the PeerSync service if it still appears in the Services Window:
    a. Click the Start button, then click Run and type cmd, and then click OK
    b. At the DOS prompt, type SC delete PeerSyncSVC, and then click Enter.
  4. Reboot the computer.
  5. Log in as Administrator.
  6. Run the UAC version of the PeerSync installation.

After you have reinstalled the product, follow the instructions in the tutorial How to Install as a Service to install and configured the service. If you need further assistance, contact the Peer Software Help Desk.
