Move Peer Management Center to another machine

Overview

Moving Peer Management Center consists of three tasks: 

1. Back up PMC settings.
2. Install the PMC on the new server
3. Manually point Agents to the new PMC server.

Step-by-step guide

Task 1.  Back up PMC settings

1. From within the original Peer Management Center server, stop all running jobs and close the PMC Client.
2. Open the Services manager (services.msc) and stop all services that reference Peer Management (such as Peer Management Broker Service, Peer Management Center Service, and Peer Management Center Web Service).
3. Navigate to the workspace directory of the PMC (typically C:\Program Files\Peer Software\Peer Management Center\Hub\workspace).
4. Select the db, jobs, and prefs folders along with any files that end with .ini. Copy all of these items to a backup location (such as your Desktop).

Task 2.  Install the PMC on the new server

1. Run the new Peer Management Center installer on the new server. At the end of the installation, deselect the "Run the Peer Management Center Client" option, then click Finish.
2. Stop all the Peer Management services on the new server (such as Peer Management Broker Service, Peer Management Center Service, and Peer Management Center Web Service).
3. Select the folders and files that you backed up (db, jobs, and prefs folders along with any files that end with .ini) and place them into the workspace directory on the new server (if another folder is present with the same name, overwrite the old folder with the ones you copied).
4. Start all the Peer Management services (such as the Peer Management Broker Service, Peer Management Center Service, and Peer Management Center Web Service).
5. Start the Peer Management Center Client from the Start menu or by double-clicking on PL-Hub.exe in the PMC installation folder (C:\Program Files\Peer Software\Peer Management Center).

Task 3.  Manually point Agents to the new PMC server

Perform the following steps for all the Agents that you want to point to the new PMC server:

1. At each Agent location, go to the Agent install directory (typically: C:\Program Files\Peer Software\Peer Agent).
2. Open the file named Agent.properties in a text editor.
3. Find the line that states jms.broker.hostname= and replace everything after the equal sign with the new hostname or IP address.
4. Save and close the file.
5. Stop and restart the Agent service.
6. Repeat for each Agent.
